Another Year, Another Adventure In Asia

A couple of months ago we learned that our daughter, son-in-law and four granddaughters are going be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for another 18 months.  My son-in-law received a promotion and while we're very happy for that, it does mean they'll be living in Malaysia longer than they or we thought when they went there two years ago.  However, on the plus side, this does mean we've got the opportunity for more adventures in Asia for Christmas.

Tomorrow morning, December 20, we fly to Tokyo, have an overnight layover (staying at an airport hotel) and then travel on to Kuala Lumpur the following morning arriving at about 5 p.m. on December 22.  We've been to KL before but we're looking forward to it again, especially to see the Grandkids.  I'm not sure what all we're going to do there this time but I do know the two oldest girls have gotten quite good at horseback riding and want to show us their lessons.

The day after Christmas all eight of us are flying from KL to Lombok, Indonesia (about a three hour flight) for a four night stay at the Oberoi Hotel.  Lombok is an island about 20 miles to the east of Bali.  Below is a map showing the general location of Lombok:

And here is a closer look at the island itself, which has a 12,000 foot volcano, showing the location of our hotel on the beach.

Lombok is still pretty undeveloped and is supposed to be an "unspoiled Bali", i.e., like Bali was 40 years ago.  See http://wikitravel.org/en/Lombok

Below is a picture of the volcano from the beach:

After staying four nights in Lombok we return to KL for four days before returning home.

Happy Holidays!
